Patient Rights and Obligations
1. Patient Rights
A. Right to Receive Medical Treatment
Patients have the right to receive appropriate healthcare services for the protection and promotion of their health. They shall not be discriminated against based on gender, age, religion, status, or economic circumstances.
B. Right to Information and Self-Determination
Patients have the right to receive sufficient explanation from their attending physician and nurses regarding their condition, treatment methods, expected outcomes, and medical costs, and to decide whether to consent.
C. Right to Privacy
Patients have the right to have their physical, health, and personal privacy protected in relation to their medical treatment.
D. Right to Request Consultation and Mediation
Patients may request consultation and mediation from the Korea Medical Dispute Mediation and Arbitration Agency in case of medical service disputes.
2. Patient Obligations
A. Obligation to Trust and Respect Medical Professionals
Patients must accurately inform medical professionals of their health-related information and trust and respect the treatment plan.
B. Obligation Not to Receive Treatment by Fraudulent Means
Patients must identify themselves before treatment and shall not receive treatment under false pretenses.
